Love, marriage and a horseless carriage

By Ciaran Mundy | January 21, 2008

David Vaughan sent me this great shot of him taking a new bride and groom on the first leg of a low CO2 honeymoon.

And his reason for taking a pledge. . . .

“I work on the railways in this country, so I get a good deal in Europe. Also, I love cycling. So if I can’t make this commitment, who can? This is a renewed pledge. I’ve already gone 22 months without flying and it’s not stopped me having some classic holidays. I’ve cycled the length of the Pyrenees, round the Ring of Kerry and all over the place in England, not to mention other trips to Switzerland and Paris. 2008 is taking me to Prague and the Italian Riviera, plus I will be taking on Wainwright’s classic Coast to Coast walk. All this will be every bit as exhilerating and stimulating as any destination I might fly to. It’s really no hardship. If people stopped flying so much, they would be surprised at what was within much easier reach of home.”
