Can a few people make a difference?

By admin | June 1, 2007

Q. It makes no difference when everyone else continues to fly, so is there any point?

A. All social change starts with a few pioneers. At the beginning, these people are in a minority. But the sooner you act the more influence you have. Rather than waiting until flying has become socially unacceptable, why not be an influential person who seeds the change in others - helping to bring it about more quickly?

In the course of putting this website together, we spoke to our friends and colleagues about our decision to be free from flying and pledging not to fly. Together we realised that there is a growing movement of people who had taken a simple but powerful step: People who simply valued their quality of life; not environmental zealots, but ordinary, thoughtful people, who care about the world they are part of; people who prioritise their children’s future, or who just want to travel in a more humane way. These are the type of people that decided that they would take the pledge.

Take the pledge not to fly and have the satisfaction of knowing that you are part of a process of positive change. We hope you’ll find that you enjoy your free time much more.
